Life in Texas!! :)

Larry and I have certainly been living the easy life for the past few weeks. He was given the task of building a sailboat for the NAS Corpus Christi annual Titanic Cup. Keeping within the $75 budget, he and a few other flight students constructed their boat using semi-truck inner tube tires, a few hefty pieces of plywood, and a parachute for the sail. Despite their hard work and ingenious design, they fell a bit behind in the competition. Exhausted from a "hard" day at sea, the guys celebrated anyway, ecstatic that their boat at least managed to float while carrying the weight of four guys, their cooler, and a couple of lawn chairs.

My brother Drew and his friend Chris visited this past week. We had a very busy week of floating down the canals, surfing, grilling out by the water, golfing(the guys did anyway), and sightseeing at the Alamo and River Walk in San Antonio. As you can tell, it was a tough week. :)

Our move was for the most part pretty easy. Our furniture arrived within 3 days, which was so nice! We celebrated our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY:) the same day we moved into the house. We took a little time out to enjoy the aquarium and take in the town! We've learned that the Mexican food here is not our favorite. Actually, I haven't been a fan of any of the local restaurants. I think we'll stick to the chains from now on. Texas is definitely HOT, but we love that the days are long and the sunsets are incredible. The people here have been so nice, and there always seems to be something fun to do.
Larry begins Primary Sept. 6. We'll be heading out this Tuesday to take some time away and visit family while he's still able to take some time off. We'll be flying into Flagstaff, AZ to check out the Grand Canyon and all it has to offer. Larry and I will then rent a car and drive to Crested Butte, CO for Larry's cousin John's wedding. After a few days there, we'll be flying into VA where we'll spend about 4 days with my family in Danville before driving up to Alexandria and spending a couple of nights with Larry's friends and family. This will be his first visit home since Christmas. We'll end our trip there, flying back to Corpus Christi the 28th.

WE'RE MOVING!!

For all those who have not heard, Larry and I will once again be packing up and heading out for yet another exciting adventure. Larry has been given orders to continue his flight training in Corpus Christi, TX for at least another 6 months. Our move out date is scheduled to be around July 8...so with a few travel days inbetween, we should hopefully be there by the 15th. We have not yet found a house, but are both super excited and trying to take this one step at a time.

We'll do our best to keep you posted over the upcoming weeks. We are hoping to have somewhat settled in "somewhere" by July 18...as that will be our 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!:)

It's been a while since our last post and there's much to catch up on. Instead of boring you with too many details...here's the fast forwarded version of the last couple of months:)

We met up with Drew and Ashley in Atlanta to catch the Braves vs. the Cubs. The Braves rocked the Cubs in every game that weekend...except for the one we attended. Despite their tragic loss, we had a blast! We spent that Sat. afternoon at the Coke factory..."opening happiness". We loved the tasting room, where we got to try around 60 different Coke products from around the world! I think Africa's were my favorite..very fruity!

As soon as we returned from Atlanta, I started classes towards my Master's in Speech Pathology, and Larry officially started flight school!!

I flew into D.C. Memorial Day Weekend to stay with Mike and Neil and see my wonderful family(s) and friends. It was so nice to see everyone and stand on VA soil:) Larry was so depressed he couldn't make it, but will surely be visiting soon.

We've both been super busy these last few weeks. Larry aced all of his tests for ground school, and FINALLY received his much awaited flight suit, helmet, bomber jacket, and of course, his Ray Bans:)

Larry I went on a sunset picnic on Pensacola Beach to finally spend a little time together after these busy weeks. We had crab dip, pineapple, sushi, and of course, cheesecake:)

What's New?

Our 10 month honeymoon will quickly be coming to an end as we will both soon be hitting the books and moving towards the next chapter in our lives. Larry will FINALLY start the six weeks of API here in Pensacola May, 21, while Amber will begin working towards her master's degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology.
This next step for Larry will take him out of the photo studio where he has been "working" for the last six months. API will be followed by Primary, where Larry will once again get to try his skills in the pilot seat.
Amber plans to continue working at the credit union full time, while taking the required pre-requisite courses for the Speech Pathology program on-line through Longwood University. She will complete these 25 credits by next May, beginning her three years as a grad student in the fall of 2011.

We will be flying in for a short visit Memorial Day weekend!! We are both so stoked to head home for a few days and cannot wait to see everyone!! We will be landing in Dulles late Thursday night and staying through the following Monday. This will be our first time in VA since Christmas.

Oil Spill Heads for Pensacola

As you have all heard, the recent oil spill is heading straight into the gulf and will soon be colliding with our gorgeous beaches. It will unfortunately create an alarming danger for our wildlife, leaving fishermen without jobs and many tourist spots without business. Please keep all those affected in your thoughts and prayers, and hope for the best as this disaster continues to move our way.

Larry Spends a Day with the Blue Angels and Assistant Commandant

What seemed to be an underrated stash job for the NAS photo studio, soon evolved into an unforgettable opportunity envied by many fellow Marines, and civilians alike. As the most experienced photographer at hand, Larry was granted the opportunity to photograph General Amos' big ride in the #4 Blue Angel jet. It was a show he will never forget as he witnessed and photographed first hand one of the most riveting air shows created.

It was only a few days later that he was asked to take a ride in the Blue Angel's C-130, Fat Albert. Even though the ride was cut short due to a malfunctioning turn indicator, Larry got to experience weightlessness after a 45 degree takeoff that took the massive aircraft from 0-3500 ft in 3 seconds. While trying to do a 60 degree bank a few hundred feet off the ground the pilots leveled the aircraft out and had to land. What started out to be 'once in a lifetime experience' Larry will luckily be given the chance to ride again in just a few weeks.
